This is St.James Cathedral Located on Church Street (near Queen) in Toronto Ontario. I actually took this shot when I was out shooting with jeger and VitaminB . It was jeger's idea to shoot this church, so while he was taking pics of it I was talking with VitaminB on the side walk and just fired off a couple of shots mid sentence. They didn't look that great, but when I did a Black and white conversion and played with the colour channels it turned into this... MUCH better =)
Thanks for all the amazing comments and fav's!!! I was as high as 7.3 then leveled off around here... i'm very happy... I was actually only expecting around a 6.2 or so...
For those that asked, this was shot at 12mm on DX crop... A wider lens wouldn't have helped as there are building beside this that end up getting into the frame... so the cropping on the sides of the church were actually done to crop off those other buildings... better to cut off part of the church than to have other buildings on the edge of the frame...
Special thanks to jeger for the idea to go take pics of churches that day =)

How to do the Black sky???
shoot during day with blue sky and when you do a Black and White conversion, play with the blue channels... basically jsut fiddle with all colour channels and you can get some AMAZING results =)

Eric, don't feel bad about Mike's post just below mine (myarcaswiss). I checked and he has not been in a challenge yet and has left 6 comments and every one of them are negative. I wish people that only leave negative feedback would show some of their own "perfect" work so we can better understand what the rest of us need to aspire to!
There is something rather fake looking about this image, and I believe it is the dark sky in relation to the very crisp and sharply lit church.
This tells me that the shooter relies a lot on the computer to create his photo rather than shoot it better at the start.
I see this as being a photo-illustration rather than a photograph of a church.
No ribbons from me on this one.
E-money. Awesome shot....I used to walk past this church every day on my way to stem pedestrians for quarters work. Fantastic perspective, the duotone processing is spot-on. Hearty congrats on another Blue ribbon for your collection.
really nice shot of this church. I think you wanted to take a couple more steps back to fit the whole building. If would have been nice of you framed the spire with the tree branches.
Great tones in this and great sharp clarity of the magnificent architecture of the cathedral. Stark black and white sky and the encroaching branches hint at a bit of a darker interpretation however, as does your title "Judgment Day" - and the person sitting on the stairs is waiting, dwarfed by the immensity and richness of the imposing edifice. Should the organisation of religion overpower the small Soul?
Eric, I am almost done voting through the religion entries, and yours is in a select group of photos that have distinguished themselves. This is a quality image, and I hope you do really well with it. Good luck. (no vote)
FWIW, my girlfriend, Rebecca, said that she would give this a 10 if she could :)
