I like the use of negative space, but for this shot, I don't think the tree is necessary to add perspective. Probably wasn't possible, but a little more zoom (while still keeping both planes in the shot) could add to this. Nice catch with them both parting the cloud

to me, and this is just my opinion, I would have cropped out the tree. Also would have cropped out a tad of the sky.
