My son saw the pic and said "That's General Grievous Dad!"
I had to Google to see whom he meant...there's a resemblance, 4 arms, 2 legs, wiered eyes etc...kids! All that's missing are the light sabres.
This is a spittle bug. Family Cercopidae. They are gross, especially when they are in Nymph stage all cavorting under a mass of foam. This one is about 2.54cm (1") in length. No flash, just ambient light, 123 shots and lots of patience with some heavy glass. I have a mentor (thank you, you know who you are), hope I did you proud... :)
PP:
Output from Nikon Transfer, rotate, Hue/Sat, Curves, Crop and centered his radiator grille in the middle of the frame, USM, Border, SFW

I know why he didn't do better Aunty Roz...he's not inspiring enough (or shiny) :) You would think he's cute lol.
I am very pleased with the DOF I got from far behind the eyes to far in front of them. Practiced from 123 shots with varying settings. He was a bit docile...
I'm learning...and this wasn't a ribbon attempt, far from it.
Just getting to grips with my new DSLR and new glass...and the comments were great, helps me on the next attempt. I am very happy with the fact that I now know where the Sigma's sweet spot is f/8 to f/11, and weakness (diffraction) beyond f/16. It is a magnificent lens for non-macro as well.
