My 3 year old grandson reads a classic. (Looks at the pictures, anyway.)
Pre-challenge notes:
One of my first efforts with my new Wireless flash triggers. 430EX to the right, behind a plastic diffuser panel. Another flash in my hand, pointing to a reflector on the left to provide just a little fill. Hoping to come in at least well into the 5's. I'm expecting a lot of wow-factor entries from the folks that know lighting really well, so I'll be happy with a mid-packish placement.
Anticipated critiques:
-Too dark
-Overly bright highlights on cheek
-Decent portrait, but nothing that stands out.
Post-challenge notes:
Though I knew this was not a killer portrait, I thought it would do a higher low 5 than this. I guess nothing really stood out from this to give many people pause. I can certainly understand the 5's, but a lack of feedback from the low voters leaves me wondering what was really the problem with this one.

I think the biggest thing you "missed" here is lighting his eyes. I like the pose, the open book, the fact we can see the illustrations in the book. The background is a bit busy, and a bit more fill on the left to counter the shadow would help. But mostly you need to get some light into his eyes.
