While using a deck of cards and combining different ones so they added up to nine, I had an 8 and picked up an ace (number 1) and then I thought about the dead mans hand, aces and 8's. I have this old 36 cal colt replica and thought I would try some photo's of my old gun and a poker hand of aces and 8's with a 9 kicker. After doing some research, I found out which cards Wild Bill Hickok had when he was shot, built a poker hand to match and shot the photo.

I think some moody lighting would make this image pop. Guns, high-stake poker game, cowboys, and the wild west are all subjects that invoke tension, but the lighting is very peaceful, neutral, and calm. Give me some directional light and maybe even some smoke! Make me believe I'm right there with ol' Billy!
The nine is important to the story of this shot which I really like. I might have simplified the title to "Wild Bill Hickok's last hand" to let the picture do more of the story telling.
