Amazingly, this was the second close encounter I experienced on the same day. This is a Dugong (related to the Manatee)at a place called Abu Dabab in the Red Sea. When I first saw him (her?,)there was already a group of divers nearby. I decided to hang back and give this gentle aquatic mammal some space. A few minutes later I was rewarded with this sequence of shots as he came past me on his way to the surface. He got so close that I had to hold the camera back above my shoulder to catch the main picture - it isn't cropped in any way.
