I like this one, but had I come across it voting I probably would have thought, "Oh look, another shot from above of a stair case." While it probably would have scored better than your entry, the other has much more character and more of a story behind it than this one could.
The curved bright patterned edges make me think of warped piano keyboards. While this might have scored better than your actual entry, the one you entered is by far a better example of photography as art.
