I got the idea when I found this dessicated robin on the side of the house. Then I found a dead butterfly later the same day! I took shots of that two, not knowing which I would use later.
I found the line I wanted to use at //www.allmichaeljackson.com/lyrics/whoisit.html, so I needed a moon shot and luckily the clouds cooperated. I used two textures from CG Textures (they are free!).
Moon: cropped, levels
Bird: isolated the bird from the bg and placed it over the moon image. Under the bird the original was blue and with dodging/burning/cloning, I left parts of that to make up that texture.
Added the two textures, overlay mode.
Resized to 720 and Save for Web.
I love the grittiness to this photograph. The way you used texture to convey the moon is quite clever and makes for a more interesting photograph. The dying/dead bird is post-processed well too. I do like how you added the textural shadow to ground the bird a bit. I think that the moon should be a little farther way though.
