Thanks for all the comments. It was not behind glass or anything, which made it a challenge to shoot - these things can run fast! The camera was only inches away.
Sorry, I thought it was plastic, just too amazingly scary to believe it is real! Never seen a picture of a black widow before. Its an amazing shot! Congrats to you! Natasha
oooh! the notorious black widow spider! excellent crisp photo.. love how the web is also well defined, and yet the backdrop is appropriately out of the focus plane. They are dangerous, so I'm sure you didn't want to play around to close, but too bad you didn't have a white card or something to place behind the spider to clean up the background. I am giving this a high score, but that last comment is only "wonder".... :0)
I hope you killed this after taking the picture!!!, the only improvement to the picture that I can see, is that the light reflected too much on the belly of the black widow, making it difficult to have a nice detail of the hourglass shape. Very good job 7-morterin
OMG! SCARY!!!! Great job getting in so close though. You've got more guts than me. I love how you captured her actually spinning the web. So, what kinda spider is this? 7, just-married
A great insect shot, the branch foreground and rocks in the background really add to the picture, I would have cropped slightly closer and taken off the white at the top though, if it was possible.
My hat's off to you - I would NEVER have gotten that close to that thing. Incredible shot - focus is fabulous; definitely one of my higher rated shots. lhall
10! 10! My grandson and I took one just like this several months ago, but yours turned out so much better than mine. Mine would only have been a 6 compared to yours. Fantastic of her hourglass, web, and all. Keep it up. PTL
I don't understand what a Species 6 is but I do understand that this is a great photo. Really nice focus, I wish the glare on the abdomen wasn't there. DPz
better than the BW pic I tried... lol I almost got bitten too... if there was no glare on her hourglass this shot would be perfect... really nice focus and DOF too...
I really like this picture, though i am not crazy about the subject matter. I am SO glad they do not grow that big. Great focus and composition. Very well done. karmat
