I first saw this little grasshopper (about 1/2" long) on Monday. I was so excited to get his picture on the rosebud with a black bacdrop. So I spent a half hour taking every shot I could imagine, then come in to find that I had the ISO set to 1250 ---AARGGHH! I love my D80 but it is pretty noisy at high ISO. They were all blech. I've checked that rose every day and today he was finally back! Better yet, it was a bit overcast so no harsh shadows. So I dragged all my stuff out and took tons of images. I got several pretty good ones. Not up to Roz the bug queen's quality, but a good first step. Even with my camera on a tripod and using a remote shutter release, there was a bit too much movement going on when using the whole set of Kenko extension tubes.
Anyway, the black backdrop is just a towel. Processing:

Color Efex Pro bleach bypass, mixed with layer above at 45% opacity
I'm not so sure I like this processing, it's pretty harsh. I'm going to have to work on my bug shots...
