I went home to Iceland for a holiday and spent a bit of time photographing the birds down at Tjornin.
Arctic terns are some of my most favourite birds, and they're busy hunting and feeding their young or nesting at this time of year. Lovely athletic (and fierce) creatures.
I was actually hoping for a classic 'hover' shot, since they hover still in the air and then go and dive after the small fish they eat but this one was my favourite. I have a whole bunch of outtakes though.
I hope it will do well, it's one of my favourite images I've taken this year so far. Too bad it's a fairly close crop (I need more zoom for birds, really) so I can't print it big.
