Okay, tried out some suggestions. Tried to use adjustment layers with levels and a little color added. I think it is pretty, but don't know if it is any better from a technical standpoint.
Good work. I am intimidated by layers. Partly because I tend to ignore directions. I have to spend some time with them, as they sure seem to to be a great tool.
