Based on the urban legend where a young virgin is working in [insert place here] and meets an awesome guy. He says he loves her, and pressures her for sex, but she refuses until her last night in town. Not wanting to "lose" him, she gives in. The next day, he meets her at the airport as she is leaving and tells her he has a present but not to open it until she is in the sky. Then, he hands her a ring box. She is ecstatic. They kiss goodbye, and she gets on the plane. She waits until they are in the air, and then opens the box expecting to find an engagement ring. Instead, she finds a note saying, "Welcome to the world of AIDS."

I thought about doing this theme, but couldn't think of a good photo. It definitely meets the challenge, but as a photo on its own ... I don't think it'd do well on photosig. That's my big complaint about some of these challenge. They just aren't good opportunities to take nice photos *sigh* Other than the topic (which can't be helped when they give us such bad ones), focus is a tad soft maybe. ~indi
I can see where some people wont like this, but to me, it portrays a urban legend very well. the angle and framing/cropping are nice. Focus is well, and the lighting is just fine. Overall a nice job. Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~
a marriage to disease - interesting way of thinking about it. Don't want to be married eh? Good concep, but the photo is way to dark, try to underexpose it in Photoshop
This is not funny. I've lost loved ones to this. I pray this doesn't strike your family. Looks like you accomplished pretty much what you set out to when you started. Don't really understand why this message in a ring box. Good focus with a mystical lighting overall. Needs a little more light. Don't see the legend or superstition. Emotion wise I'd like to give a 1, meeting challenge also is a 1 as far as I'm concerned, picture wise though it is about a 6, which gives it a final 4
I think this shot would be much stronger if the sharp focus was on the written message rather than the ring box. The 'message' here is you subject... - setzler
Good layout of scene. Lighting might have worked better if focused on the note and not the ring case, as the light reflecting of the black felt is distracting. Focus is a little blurry too.
