I made a hole in the black background, so that I can insert a metal pin and tie the incense stick to it. I placed it close to the tulip to make it appear as if the smoke comes out of the tulip.
I lit the whole setup using my SB800 from backside. For front lighting I placed a white foam board for reflection.
While I upload the image, I still debate within whether this meets the challenge completely. I think, I will wait for the votes.
Thanks for the votes and comments... It's my birthday today and getting a ribbon on birthday is quite exciting. :)

Really unfortunate that this beautiful photo was DQed. And your birthday ribbon denied. Thanks for sharing the details of your set up. I learned something and got some ideas I'd like to try.
This is awesome! I love the clean sophisticated look -- and you pulled the smoke thing off perfectly! Congratulations on winning a ribbon. Very well deserved!
Well, a ribbon doesn't quite class as a birthday present, since you worked hard to get it, it wasn't just given to you. :)
Congrats, and happy birthday!
Sometimes, an image is just so perfect that it defies description. This is one of them. While this reviewer is not totally convinced of the author's intent, it is certainly unusual and as such meets the challenge criteria. This is simply beautiful. Well done.
