Two sailboats beating to windward on the starboard tack -- with the wind crossing the boat over the starboard (right-hand) side obliquely from the front. Tacking is the technique which lets a sailing vessel progress (in a zigzag path) in the direction from which the wind is blowing.
As noted in this link, even within the sailing lexicon the word "tack" has multiple meanings.

There's a little haloing from the harsh, raking light about 1-1/2 hours before sunset shinign through some haze.

Excellent I wondered if someone would do this. I would have preferred it if you had the courage not to use the word Tack in the title but I understand why you did.
This the Generale? Got all his earmarks... I'd often remarked to myself that those masthead flotation devices look like giant thumbtacks, actually, so nice catch.
A idea that this reviewer would have thought to see more of, this image is less than successful in both the artistic and technical sense. Frankly, the image is less than interesting due to the overwhelming setting.. Perhaps a different background with a slightly different angle would have helped. A little more thought, tighter focal length and better focus would have brought the rating higher.
