Thanks so much for the comments, votes and ribbon.
I was worried that this might not do so well because it’s not so brightly colored but I liked the muted tones and, most of all, I wanted the other end of the colored pencils in the shot.
I tried quite a few variations – pencils on their own, pencils with crumpled paper, pencils with folded paper – the list goes on… What appealed to me most was that one half of the frame is nearly empty and in the other half there’s more going on. Had the flash on the right pointing straight onto the pencils.
faery mentioned the red, black and white in her comment. Strangely enough, I had titled the image “Red, black and white” and changed it to “Colors” at the last minute ;-))

This is one of my favorites. I am big fan of your photography and perspective. Like the way you use your kitchen for photography, probably no one ever might have thought that kitchen could serve a purpose other than cooking. Congratulations! again on the ribbon.
I didn't vote this challenge, but your photo should have won blue in my opinion. Far the best photo in this challenge. Beautiful, artistic and creative take on the subject. Superb choice of colors and composition. A real gem. Peeked into your portfolio and enjoyed the views.
Very nice concept and image. I love the great clarity you get in your photos. Congrats on the well deserved ribbon! (I would love to know what you use for your reflective surface)
It's not fair, it's not fair!!! Irene always gets ribbons!! Leave some for us, poor DPCers!! LOL CONGRATS Irene, wonderful shot, but what else is new!? :)
Nice, clean shot, and a perfect reflection. What did you use as your reflective surface? I notice that there is no distortion, when normally I see that with glass reflecting surfaces. Congrats on the ribbon.
Simple, elegant and very stylish look at colored pencils - the image meets the subject matter creatively and with a certain panache. A terrific demonstration of the creative process in meeting the challenge. Should be a sure bet to win a ribbon or place high as a top ten image. A couple of minor detail problems not worth mentioning because they don't appear until you really get a critical eye and examine the image closely. Well done.
