when this challenge was announced i wondered if i could get katee to look like she was drawing a pencil sketch of herself and pose with a pencil in her mouth ..
i already had a sketch of katee which was in b&w, so i coloured it in with the derwent pencils ..
i took katee, the sketch mounted on the easel (which i had bought especially), the mirror and my camera outside .. oh .. plus some doggy treats .. !!
i tried in a couple of places but the background wasnt working or the sunlight was too bright..
added to that it was quite windy and the noise from greg mowing on the other side of the house was freaking katee out and making her skittish ..
i finally placed all the stuff near some grass where i've taken a lot of insect photographs ..
i tried to get katee to sit closer to the easel, but she wouldnt get any closer than you see her here .. no matter what ..!!
and there was no way she'd hold a pencil in her mouth ..
i put some doggy treats on the easel hoping it would look like she was peering closely at the sketch ..
& i put doggy treats on the pencils so she'd look like she was choosing a colour or just about to pick one up ...
she would stay as far away as she could from the easel or pencils and lean in, which didnt work for me ..
i chose the challenge pic for her excellent expression & coz she's looking right at you .. and she's copying the expression in the drawing ..
i dont think i'll use katee in a challenge again coz she's been a real pain .. all week she's been hassling me to hit that bloody update button !!..:)
& its been pretty exciting.. after 100 votes i thought i might get a pb ..
thankyou so much everyone for all the wonderful comments we've had during voting .. :) ..
this beautiful little girl passed away on the 4th June 2019 ..
she was nearly 17 years old ..:(

Awwww....this is such a beautiful picture of your Katee. She looks so happy and seems to be enjoying messing with you just a little bit. I enjoy your images of Toddy, but I sure miss her. She was a very special girl.
Ha! In those days, two years before I joined, there were 110 participants and 128 comments! And Katee got the prize without doing the talk. Just fabulous.
SHE IS SUCH A CLEVER GIRL THAT I HAD TO COME BACK AND FIND THIS AWESOME MUCH LOVED IMAGE OF KATIE THAT I LOVED... MAYBE DUE TO MY LOVE OF DOGS (ALL ANIMALS ACTUALLY) AND ALSO MY LOVE OF COLOURED PENCILS AS YOU CAN SEE BY SOME OF MY DPC CHALLENGE ENTRIES...
I SHARING WITH YOU ONE OF MY JEWEL AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE AS I LOVED THIS IMAGE THE MOST, RE ALL YOUR AWESOME MACROS, RE THE INSECTS, BUT THIS ONE STANDS OUT ALONE AGAINST ALL OTHER IMAGES.
I FELT IT WAS RIGHT TO GIVE YOU THIS SHERPET JEWEL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FROM ME AS IT HAS ALWAYS TOUCHED MY HEART AND ALWAYS WILL... LOVE FROM SHEZ XOX
Back for another look, mostly at your details you wrote. One of my dog's birthday is coming up, looking for tips on how to keep them still! lol...
Is this your fox terrier you once told me about? surprisingly similar looking to my youngest one, Conan who is chihuahua according to his parents papers...but definitely has the look of a Fox, who probably got his fathers genes, my oldest one Lupo...who is a dedicated alpha male. I have to feed them in separate rooms!...keep up the good work, your one of the best.
Congratulations Roz! First Place and it's not an insect. I think your ribbon winner should be a model again. Reminds me of some Norman Rockwell magazine covers.
Of course I knew this was yours, Roz. I am so thrilled you got the BLUE!!! Congratulations! Absolutely brilliant and unique image. I'm very happy for you!!! OXO
roz-this is like your katee bed rolling contraption but only three here. your humor and love for your dog is not to be denied. the set-up and the ordeal is deservedly rewarded. fabulous Photography!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Wow Rozzy. What a nice surprise I got to see your name on the number one spot again. It's such a great shot of your dog. A perfect pose. She looks great in that nice setting you've created too. Who says you can't win at DPC with a pet shot. Way to go mate.
Oh ROZ!!!!!!!!!!! This is so amazing! And you get to show off your other artistic gifts as well as your photography talent! Way to go! I absolutely LOVE this photo of Katee! Congratulations!! And look at your overall average: 5.98+ You're almost there, Girlfriend! :)
Fantastic Job! I love the origionality in your idea. Although it seems that you put a lot of effort into this photograph, it was a great success. Congratulations!!!
Hope Katee's feeling fine this morning & very proud of herself for helping you win the Blue! You don't need to ever use Katee in a challenge again--how could you ever top this??!! Congratulations!
Fantastic composition Roz, many congratulations on the blue. Brilliant expression on Katee's face & the inclusion of the mirror is inspired - it forms a triangle of her reflection looking at the drawing, whilst the drawing is looking at her and she is looking at you :-)
Roz or Gregory, either way it's a brilliant shot of Katee and I think a shoe in for a ribbon. I love the lighting and the feel of the shot. She is so well behaved. She needs a treat. Give her one for me too would you? The more I look at this I think Roz though. Oh well I'll see when things finish :)
Beautiful sketch! What a clever idea. LOL you have that dog soooo well trained. With this kind of talent, I'm thinking you could have a new business in the making :D
i know this puppy:) excellent photo, perfect editing and comp. only teeny problem for me would be the tip of the tail cut off, but its not that big of a deal.
ok...how do you get your dog to do these things...excellent, loads of set up here and I think I know who did this...hmmm did you do that drawing your self...which would explain a whole lot of things...like why you keep winning....hmmm
This is another one of those images in the challenge that has a certain wow factor imo. It might be how sharp the dog looks as well as the coloring from the grass. Boy I wish the grass was that color here.
Hysterical!!! Love this! That's a Jack Russel for you though - most brilliant dogs in all creation. Top marks for set up, effort and for being a Jack Russel owner!!!! :-)
This is just so damn brilliant and innovative. My absolute favorite for a blue ribbon. I just love how you got that dog to pose for you. It must have taken quite a number of takes to get it just right. I presume you then sketched the dog from the photograph. Did you do the sketch yourself as well?
Superb effort and one that I hope will be rewarded accordingly. 9
Simple, elegant and very creative look at colored pencils - the image meets the subject matter uniquely and with a certain panache. A terrific demonstration of the creative process in meeting the challenge. Should be a sure bet to win a ribbon or place high as a top ten image. A couple of minor detail problems not worth mentioning because they don't appear until you really get a critical eye and examine the image closely. An all time personal favorite and a composition idea that this reviewer will shamelessly steal and use in the future. Well done.
So very creative!!!!! I absolutely love this. The focus is great! The creativity is great! The subject is adorable! Well thought out and well executed! 10
