I had already decided I wanted to make use of natural light for this challenge - I picked this location because I have used it before and knew I would get some great shadows and I knew I could blow the sky whilst the trees would retain some interest in the upper portion of the image.
Max is walking very carefully here as he is holding my 24-105mm f/4L (in both hands!)
I took a few photos of the woods with and without Max, but I like the way this one tells a story... albeit one that some might find a little sad.

Yup, you certainly used the LB to its full potential here Paul. That said I think you'd get a great underexposed shot here as well - spooky. Welcome to the LB gang.
I kind of expect the light to be dim and spooky for a shot like this, so while it conveys aloneness it isn't sinister because it's bright. Could be alien-ship bright but it doesn't feel that way. The boy is unfound but not lost, perhaps not wanting to be found. The lighting definitely affects my perception of the image; creative way to meet the challenge IMO.
While not a complete demonstration of lighting, the fisheye effect is excellant and the lighting angle increases the overall impact of the image from an emotional standpoint. The interesting angles of light from the direct in your face effect of the background to the light coming from the side is very effective. A good and different demonstration of natural lighting to enhance the impact of an image.
