Not originally intended for entry, but just me messing around with my new 50 1.8 held against the front of the body with my hand. I figured I hadn't entered for awhile and it worked well, so why not.
Post Challenge:
So, wishing I had received my extension tubes before I took this, as I can achieve a lot better results with that, but they arrived the day after submission. By the way, this is some lichen on a sandstone boulder, and I thought it somewhat resembled brains, hence the title. The DoF was really short (obviously) but I kinda liked the way the slice looked.

Can't decide if I like the dof here or not. On one hand it helps bring the eye into that great texture but on the other hand that bottom right corner isn't attractive. Maybe just a little crop off the bottom or recomposing toward the top left but keeping the same dof? Not sure. Technicals look great and it isn't monotonous with a single texture/pattern over the entire photo.
The odd shape of the object created an interesting DOF effect that is very interesting. The colors and shapes make this a worthy entry into the texture challenge.
