In case anyone was wondering, these are seed pods from a tree that have been trampled by students. I'm not sure what kind of tree, I'll try and find out.
I literally set this up and took it in about 15 seconds. The only place to park nearby was a set of police parking spots so I parked, ran out, pushed these together, and snapped a few shots before running back to my car. I really wish I had more time, but I've been really busy lately.

An interesting choice for meeting the subject challenge - very abstract and different. The image could be a little more dramatic. A little more focus would have helped this image score higher. A good, solid entry into the challenge.
Not bad but not great. dof either needs to be greater to bring the whole thing in focus or shallower and focus on an interesting portion of the photo. As it is now my eye wanders around trying to find a place to settle.
