Shot from the west end of the pedestrian bridge between New York New York and MGM looking north. Approximately 40 minutes of time passes. The major "lights out" happens at 8:30 PM, and Hollywood (the tall background building just left of center) finally goes dark at around 08:45.
The animation comprises 69 photos and 80 total frames with the fades.
The original RAW images were processed in Adobe Lightroom 2.3 and exported as JPEG images at full resolution. Processing and export time for the 69 images was approximately 7 minutes.
The full-resolution 12.7Mpx photos were loaded into Photoshop CS4 64-bit running under Windows Vista 64 as a 69-layer image. The basic animation frames were created and the timing optimized, then the fade frames created and finally the copyright overlaid. The final size of the 71-layer Ps file is 1.1GB. Time to create and optimize the animation was about 45 minutes, of which at least half was playing with timing and the fade-in/out, and adding the copyright.
The animation was exported as an animated GIF file for maximum cross-compatibility. Export time was less than 30 seconds.
This is sooooo cool and soooo well done. I've been watching it over and over. And the quality is wonderful. I read the notes several times, and understand it somewhat. Thanks for the details.
