Self timer used in order for me to run and get in the picture. The broken fence represents the fall of apartheid. And then there's me, looking past it. Deep, I know. Ok, I did not think of that when taking the shot, but it could work, couldn't it?

Wow! Thank you everyone for your kind comments and votes.
We don't have that many famous landmarks, so I tried to shoot Table Mountain, but conditions weren't that great. Then a few days later we had this gorgeous light, so I just had to go for the dramatic silhouette/reflection shot.

No doubt!! incredible picture. Perfect timing, exposure, composition everything is just amazing in this picture. Just wanted to ask due to curiosity, since you have mentioned that you kept the camera on self timer so that you could have reached to take the position but there the surface was muddy and wet, so how did you manage to get rid off the foot marks that you made while reaching there.
akshat!!
I didn't do anything to get rid of prints, they just did not appear on the photo. I guess it's probably a combination of the angle, the reflection and the wet sand.

I was so happy to see this on the front page as I was born in Zimbabwe and lived a large part of my life in South Africa. If this is taken from Bloubos strand across the bay from Table Mountain it is where my father's ashes were scattered when he passed away in September last year. It is truly a beautiful area and he loved to sit on a bench with the view every Sunday and read the newspaper.
on post processing i think it would look more realistic if you could have aligned the shadow of the man to the source of light (i am comparing this on the shadows casted by the fishing pens).
As 'n mede-inwoner van die Strand ('n absolute paradys op windstildae), veels geluk! Ek het ook al vele foto's op ons mooi strand geneem, maar nog nie iets soos hierdie nie.
WOW! Just the right superlative escapes me right now, but WOW! And 7.9! My how you are off to a raging start your first few months on dpChallenge! Congratulations! This is amazing!
You stood still pretty well for 30 seconds! I actually thought it was going to get the red - I thought Hotpasta might be right in front of you. Just goes to show that unique places are a welcome sight here.
This is my pick for the blue ribbon. Hope to see it on the front page. I already gave you a 10 at the beginning of the week. Just coming back to comment.
A very intriguing treatment of space - it's empty, yet the single character seems to fill the void remarkably well. The subtle pastel drop shadow is perfectly executed. A good image to represent a new view of South Africa. Well done.
One of my top picks for this challenge. This has lovely colours, a great silhouette and the line leading my eye through the shot. Good choice of font too.
Excellent! The wooden railing really adds to the composition. Slightly saturated colors but I will go with that. Love the ripples, reflection everything..10!
