Thanks for all votes and comments. One point that I think a lot of people misunderstood - fill flash would not have helped - apart from scaring them off (and this is more than just a quick one shot snap), it would have burnt out the foreground cow way before helping with the black one. Burning etc. no hope as there just isn't the information in the black cows face at this exposure. Anyway, I was way too busy trying to stop their friends from eating my tripod :-)
Excellent perspective shot. One of my favorites! On my monitor, the cow on the right is a bit too dark -- you can't see eyes.(I don't know if others can). Might check it out on a few monitors--it might be alright, but if not, you would want to dodge a little there or lighten. Very good overall!
Very nice. The only thing I would suggest is adjusting the contrast a tad so that the black cow's eyes and facial features might be more visible. Great angle! :o)
Hey great picture of those cows, just wish they were a little brighter especially the cow on the right, in this case you could have used the dodge tool, anyway good luck :)
the angle / position of the shot does seem a bit of a standard in terms of cow photography (if ever there was a specialist field)... however, it is decidedly appealing. i like the brightness of the colours (the biege cow, grass and sky, particularly), the lack of clutter away from the cows. and cow noses always get the thumbs up from me. i'm not quite as keen on the position of the sun - the shadow of the cows left ear makes it look a smidgeon unbalanced to me. also, the cow on the right is a bit too silhouettey - can't see the buggers eyes. in all though - it's great! 8.
Wonderful use of the wide angle lens. It's a great shot - one of my favorites. Improve it eevn more by: a) Better lighting on the faces - especially the animal on the right, b) Catchlight in the visible eyes and c) Remove the white part of the border. It draws attention way from the image. (The ear tag is unfortunate photographically but a fact of life these days.)
I love a good cow shot and this counts. I just wish we could see the black cow's eyes. The red cow almost reminds me of one of my dogs by her expression.
Did you use fill flash? If not, try it. You might scare them off, but before they run you at least have one succesful shot. The fill flash might bring out the details of the cows better and get a better balance with the bright (for the exposure) sky. Especially the black (bonte) one needs more detail. Set the exposure level to -1 to avoid blown out noses and a too flashy look.
Composition is good (point of view, perspective, positioning, horizon positioning), the sky is great (a blue sky is very boring) and the colors are very natural strong and fresh.
Great sky and color in the grass. I love the persepctive on the cow on left, but the underexposure of the right cow is a real bummer. Very well composed.
