Perhaps not a hidden gem, but definitely an image that has set a bar for my photography.
I was terrified of photographing people and found a couple of local models that were willing to work with me in exchange for some images for their portfolios. I knew nothing about portraiture and there were no expectations on the results. We scheduled a shoot in the morning when the light would be good and then I walked, or waded, around the model looking shots that I liked. This image was captured during my second "shoot" and my first effort with Desiree.
I've learned a lot since capturing this image, but I really haven't topped it. If anything, the additional knowledge causes me to analyze more and see less.

ustI appreciate the effort it took to get this shot. Good use of depth of field. I would like to see more detail in the eyes. Though they match the high contrast feel.
Well it's a nice shot, but one might wonder why she is sitting, cowered in mud, in muddy water only wearing something that would apear to be a silky night...dress...kinda thing. Razersharp shot nevertheless.
man this photo is my all time favorite on DPC. I wish i could rate it more than 10. I already have it in my favorites but will add this too.
I have never added any photo to my fav during voting, this is probably first and last.
I remember this image so well. Truly a gem. I thought I had faved in for many months, maybe years, but can´t find it. Still stunning image. You deserve to be among the winners. 10 from me!
Voted earlier coming back to leave comments. I remember this shot from whose portfolio I know not:-) This is such a *GREAT* 'candid' style shot that really captures a mood and feel. We really do get the sense we have stumbled across this woman and disturbed her solitude. We feel that we are intruders upon her secret space that she comes to to escape the crazy hectic world outside. I see her as connecting back with nature as seen in the fact she has gotten dirty and had emersed in the water; caring not that she is wet. In the composition, she has heard us and looks to see who has disturbed her, but we have jumped back into the shadows or trees to hide. The tones in this composition is just fabulous and the sepia gives it a feel of an old photograph of a time that has passed into memory.
I really like the image but I would have liked to have seen more texture / noise / grain; this looks like the noise reduction has been overdone. I have to say, I think I did exactly the same with my entry to this challenge, so perhaps I'm just sensitive to it.
I love this stirring and evocative image. The image conjoures up all sorts of questions (as does the title) and leaves the viewer without the answers, yet not feeling unfulfilled or cheated. Technically superb and a brave (yet perfectly correct) choice to go with the B&W. One of my top 3 so far. 9, I love it. Good luck for the rest of the challenge.
fantastic shot. Some just have a great feel to them and this is one of them! Lovely soft portrait, nice posing and composition, and the toning works really well as well. Great stuff
This looks so familiar. I think it might be an outtake from another challenge. It's a great shot. I love the square crop and the sepia tone. Great detail on the entire subject, with great bokeh background. Very evocative.
This is stunning! I love the idea, the model is beautiful and your editing is spot on. My only quibble is how overblown her shoulder and upper arm are. Still, a fantastic shot, one I can see ranking very high.
It took 0.00362 seconds for this to hit my eye like a train. This has strong classic beauty style and packs a serious punch. Every single thing appears to have been done correctly in this picture, so I'll vote accordingly.
