This rock formation is called a "flowerpot". It is formed by erosion and separation of portion of the mainland rock. The process takes millennia and it is still happening today, as the island is getting smaller and smaller each century. There are currently 2 flowerpot formations on the Island. 3rd one has already collapsed.
The entire island is only about 500 acres of land surrounded by crystal clear fresh-water Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada. The Island is located short boat ride from town of Tobermory in the Northern part of Bruce Peninsula. It is part of Georgian Bay and Fathom Five National Marine Park. It is considered by many #1 diving spot in Canada, as the water gets really deep (like an abyss) just few meters from the shore. There are many shipwrecks beneath these crystal waters visible from a glass-bottom boat.
The 6 km trail system that takes you around and through the Island interior leads you through variety of forest settings and naturally formed caves (you get to them climbing beautiful wooden staircases). This place is also a beautiful nesting place for many birds and other animals.
I wish I could have visited this place earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. It is quite magical in a different light, but I was limited by a boat schedule that day. Just one more reason to go back in the future.

Capturing the underwater structures and the island structures was quite a feat. You've shown us a truly lovely place ... a place I'd like to linger. Among best in class.
This is perfect for an upscale brochure advertising the islands. The clarity you achieved "through" the water is amazing. The colors and comp are spectacular too. Well done!
I don't know where flowerpot island is but I would like to go there and swim in that gorgeous ocean. Well done and good luck for the rest of the challenge.
I so want to be swimming there right now! Its beautiful. Great subject and the water so clear. Love the rocks in the background. Everything here works. The only thing I would say is the sky could be a little more blue for me but then again its very natural looking this way to.
I am saying 'Wow' alot but that is what happens when there are some wonderful and beautiful photos:-) Love the sparkle of the crystal blues that I see in the forefront and the deeper blues of the ocean in the distance. The ripple of the sun on the water's surface is captivating and gives me a sense of 'refreshment'...like I am there, in the water, taking in the breeze and being relaxed. One other thing that captures my attention is that rock formation that is most unusual. Think of the views from that vantage point!:-) And...there is vegetation growing on that rock formation! Beautiful shot - very much a postcard 'Don't you wish you were here' type image:-)
