I have been trying all week to figure out what it was I wanted to enter in this challenge. Not my "best photo ever taken with a digital camera" - how do I pick that? So I considered those that mean a lot to me (mostly family "snapshots" which I quite love but DPC probably wouldn't); those that may represent some aspect of my rather meandering style (it must have a pigeon!); or those that I think might appeal to voters (not a lot to choose from in the archives without repeating past entries that did well - I can never figure out what appeals to voters with respect to my own work!)
Finally as I was going through archives I came across several folders from various get-togethers, and the little light bulb came on! To truly honor DPC for the 1000th challenge, I thought I'd enter something that shows what DPC means to me, and probably to a few others here and there.
Then I had to decide which get-together (I've been to a few!) and which shot. I chose this one because of the "moment in time" aspect of it, with everyone cracking up at something that was said. The "real" group shot is a couple of frames after this one.
So not my "best" but definitely one I enjoy revisiting! Thanks to all who make DPC what it is. Well, except for that whole addiction thing... :-)

P.S. I can't take credit for the composition of this cast of characters - that goes to De Sousa who did all the arranging/directing.

For those that have asked, here's my best guess (aided very greatly by Azrifel) of who's who:
Commented on this one during voting - I did wonder if it was yours, but was sure you had said you hadn't entered the challenge! For me it is the perfect group photo - well setup and composed but fun and relaxed at the same time.
Wow! This certainly would have been my most meaningful photo too. Talk about a Whose Who among DPC'ers, huh? What a BLAST it must have been hanging out with all those heavyweights (including YOU) But you didn't have your tripod so you could get in it too? Bummer. That's the only thing that may have made it better: to have Deb's smiling face in it.
What a great photo! I tried to vote on all the photos in the challenge, but I didn't quite make it. I missed this one. Darn.
But nineteen 10's, five 9's, and forty-eight 8's! Obviously, the photo meant alot to alot of other people too!
This one brought a smile to my face - I love the spontaneity you captured, the way everyone is interacting and laughing and having fun together as a group. Three cheers for DPC! :D
I had *really* hoped the sheer joie de vivre of this one, and it's perfect fit with the occasion, would have moved it to the top :-( I was one of your 19 tens... Great image!
What a great entry! I love the fun and energy in this. What's even more amazing is that only one person is shooting right back at you lol. I envy you being able to spend time with all these great photogs. What a wonderful memento you have here.
Great group photo. Would be nice if the people depicted here had their DPC user names in the description. Starting with the front row from left to right......
Really nice group photo... the arrangement of your group is really good. Now... did everyone have to stay like this for an hour as everyone set up their own camera?!?!? :)
:-))) funny photo! 10 points for getting me on a picture. actually I hate that, that's why I'm always on the other side of the camera. ;-) oh, my dear dpc-friends... I wish I could be at the iceland-GTG... :-(
Of all the group shots I've seen or been a part of this works better than most: Folks look like they are enjoying themselves; It's actually well composed; and It's a pleasant photo of a pleasant group in a pleasant place.
even though I don't recognize anyone, I think this photo says it all, it sums up the 1,000th Challenge better than any other photo submitted, should be the blue. Wish I coulda been there :) 10+
That is a great shot! I hope you have all their names listed in the description, so I can have a peak after the challenge is over. I think I see Alex Saberi, and maybe General IE?
What a great shot for this challenge. I remember seeing this one (or one quite similar) in a GTG thread some time back. I actually recognize some of 'em!
Woooo hooo, I know some of these people. Well not in real life, but by reputation. I am going to pass on voting as I have seen this photo (or one very similar) before. Great memories are the best result from looking at old photos. Well done.
the infamous triangle! hehe i love how jorge and steve are cracking up laughing...fun times!
thanks for sharing deb and thanks to dpc for bringing people together!
