This is a marvelous image! I'm surprised that no one else mentioned that it's reversed left to right, like a mirror image. The last total lunar eclipse that we could see here was Feb 20 08, but my shots didn't come anywhere close to this.

Wow great shot . Congrats on top 5

Superb image, Mark. Just wonderful to look at, I can't believe how clear it is. Excellent work!

Wow! Nearly every human being views the near side of the moon marveling at it's simultaneous distance and nearness. This image makes a 1/4 million miles seem like a day trip to your favorite photographic spot.

Great stuff man, a true rare gem. Great details in Tycho, redness of the moon is so strange to look at, great placement in this huge challenge!

Congratz on the 4th. No mean feat considering how many entries there were. And this is one of the nicest moon shot's I ever saw.

This is a good sharp image. And the round of the sphere is easily felt. Did you have the chance to see the total solar eclipse photo participating in this challenge? 8 and good luck

Outstanding detail on the moons surface... great capture of an eclipse.

Stunning luminous moon image. Great velvety pitch black sky and twinkling stars. Super detail. 8
Post actions
Nice moon shot. Good clarity and detail.
Post actions
I gave you a 10 because it's a surprising photo, I didn't pay much attention to the bluish halo, it's a minor detail.

This is a thoroughly impressive moon photo.

Beautiful red sackcloth color.
Post actions
Wow, you captured some really great detail in this, great timing and I'm sure this shot took a lot of setup, but it really paid off.
Post actions
There are a number of things I like herre ... the moon is nicely exposed and focused. I like that you caught a few stars. And the color just feels right. All these are hard. Great photo with a high degree of difficulty!
Post actions
Gorgeous colors, and a great moon capture.
Post actions
So crisp...you had to have had this hooked up to a telescope. One of the best, if not the best, moon shot I've seen on this site. 9
Post actions
wow, im impressed:) i have nothing bad at all to say about this, its beatuiful-10
Post actions
One of the best moon shots I think I've ever seen... The colors are amazing - and the clarity even more so! BEAUTIFUL!
Post actions
Not much to say that you haven't seen about a hundred times already this challenge. Will a number do? 10 :)
Post actions
Well captured and great clarity.
Post actions
I'm hoping to leave comments on as many photo's in this challenge as possible... this was one of the few images I scored a 10. One of my criteria for scoring a 10 is "Would I have this photo on my wall?" and for this one, I surely would.

nice entry although a little flat colorwise

Nice moon shot, the few stars are nice to give some "context"

You got it. Nice lense. Detail is interesting. Mine are similiar. The color is the thing that gives the correct interpretation.
Post actions
Beautiful! I love the amount of detail on the moon.
Post actions
Wow - one of the coolest moon shots I've seen. 8.
Post actions
Sweet. I saw the red moon last year, but my 300mm lens was nowhere near enough to get this kind of a detailed shot of it. I do have to say that moon shots are something where the equipment makes a huge difference.
Post actions
I like that the moon is so sharp and that I can see so many details. While I know you had no control over the placement of the stars, I do wish the sky was completely black.
Post actions
Nicely done, good choice to offset it the frame.
Post actions
either an impressive lens or you hooke in to the telescope. either way it doesn;t really matter. it's still a 10!
Post actions
this is one of the best moon photos I have ever seen on DPC - cant wait to see what lens u used - 10

Voted earlier coming back to comment now. There is such FABULOUS detail seen in this moon photo! Craters, gouges, and such... The red color almost makes me think of Mars - but I have seen pictures and blood red/reddish moons before. Harvest Moon? I like that you did not do a close crop such that all we see is the moon for the black backdrop of space and the stars really complement the photo.

WOW! Was not expecting to see so much detail! Wonderful!!

This would be a great poster! 10 and a fav.

beautiful and so impressive
Post actions
Wow I love the glow, it really makes this a cooler shot of the moon.
Post actions
GASP! I doubt most will appreciate how difficult to produce an image that has stars, shadowed side and illuminated edge in a single image, this is a work of art, definitely something to be proud of, great great great shot!
Post actions
What a sight. The moon has so much character.
Post actions
This is a fantastic image.
Post actions
That crater on the left makes the moon look like an overinflated ball to me lol. Anyhoo, good job capturing this, it looks awesome.
Post actions
Wow this looks really impresive.
Post actions
I really like your image. Full moons are usually so flat looking. I love the red from the earth's shadow, and the softer light really makes it leap from the page. I would love to see the details of the equipment used for this image. Very nice work.

Post actions
wow, that looks like a melon (I know it's not) but the way how the button on the left of the moon is...makes it look like a melon...excellent shot...will be interested in your PP notes
