I made this image for a final project in school in spring 2008. The theme for the project was "fairytale" or "adventure" (we have the same word for the both words in Icelandic; "Ævintýri"). The theme was chosen by the students. I made two pictures and titled them "Lightelves".
Lit with two Canon 580 flashes, bouncing inside white umbrellas, triggeret with Canon transmitter on camera..
The light elf: The models are holding a small battery powered diode light pointing it towards the lens.
The orange light in the sky is from Reykjavik's city lights.
Models: Helena Mjöll and Dagbjört
The Photoshop work in this picture is minimum, lights are explained here above.
Thank you for all the comments.

When the darkness threatened to take over their very world, two young princesses found themselves in a fight to save their people.
In a battle of light and dark, they would discover within themselves a power to defy a terrifying evil.
Coming soon, the story of the coming together of two sisters and the awakening of a power within, and the evil that was their destiny to try and destroy.
I'm hoping to leave comments on as many photo's in this challenge as possible... out of (currently) 1113 images, I gave 92 of them an 8. Your image was one of those 92, placing you well within the top 10% for this challenge.
Lots and lots of images in this challenge can be grouped, bug macros, sunsets, mountains, lakes, birds, big cats. This shot however stands alone and it really offers something different from the norm. I don't know the technicalities of taking this shot, but I feel that it is let down slightly by a lack of clarity in some areas. Nonetheless, an interesting image.
Nice placement of the main subject. That the light seems to be (and probably is) the brightest part of the image is very nice. I notice the use of the rule-of-the-thirds. Very good.
What a fun, magical picture! I love the selective lighting around the ground and behind them - it really adds depth. The girls are adorable and engaging, great body positions. My only nit is that the edge where the sky/mountains meet is a little murky.
That's pretty cool. In fact, it took me a moment to notice the odd color of the sky which I feel is an important element to the 'otherworldly' sense of the image.
