this was taken on saturday afternoon while i was treating my wine yard, while i was walking trough i saw something moving behind the leaves and i saw this nest with 4 blackbirds, i immediately stopped with treatment because i'm sure the spray would probably kill the little birds very quickly.
then i moved the nest to the nearest tree, it was small plum 10 meters away, i took the shot in between the "migration" :-)
next 2 days while i was in my wine yard i checked them and they were fine, i even saw an grown up blackbirds flying away from the plum tree where i left the nest.
5 days later they were dead. i thought i saved them but apparently ... not.
after all this is my best scoring photo for now but since the story is not very happy i don't like the photo at all, it might be photographically good and shoot in right moment and stuff ... but ... you know.
peace,
goran

Awwwwww... I really feel for your heavy heart on this story.
As a human being who was out doing your work and spraying, you did what you thought was best in moving the little ones to a place where you believed they would have a better chance at survival.
There is also the very real possibility that if they were alive two days later and then not a few days after that, that something might have happened to the mother herself, in which case nothing could have saved them.
Please don't be so hard on yourself and love this picture again. If not, their lives and the enjoyment they have brought others will not be in vain, but you will be depriving yourself of the joy of having been there to witness the miracle that they were.
This is a wonderful "momment in time" photo you should be proud of. The focus is extraordinary at directing your eye right where you wanted it. That's reinforced by the color. Subject's terrific. Among best in show.
Little Jimmy was the eldest of his siblings, and as such found himself in the position of caring for them now and then. He would help feed them if his mother was too busy fighting a flock of crows. He would admonish them if they got into too much mischief. He would teach them all that he knew, and he would do everything that a bigger brother could, for he took his responsibility seriously.
Indeed, so it was that on cold dark nights when their mother was late coming home from hunting, he would even tuck them in, kiss them goodnight, and then begin a heartfelt singing of their favorite lullabye.
The miracle of life - how sweet and well done. I might have wanted to clone out the little weed over the chick if it's allowed, but a nice shot none the less.
life .. the start can often be very touch and go .. looking at these very new chicks i wonder if they survived .. its a great shot .. love that hungry little mouth, the eyes that have never opened, the nearly featherless bodies .. some would think ugly, but to me they are very very cute .. the nest surrounding them is perfect .. its like enclosed and protective ..:)
Holy smokes!!! How!!?? This is so amazing. Great detail on the "singing" fella, love the texture of the twigs, and the amazing color of the beaks and closed eyes. Could be a little sharper, but a fave.
This is my first image to vote on of the challenge and it happens to be a favorite of mine and well worth a 10. This is simply delightful and the PP is extraordinary. I wish you luck!!!
Stunning wildlife portrait! The sharpness on the beak and fluffy feathers on that clamouring chick is wonderful and the framing provided by the nest is perfect.
