Woohoo - my first 5! Thanks for all the useful comments. Now to try and do even better with my new kit (and maybe invest a little more time in post-processing - forgot it was advanced rules in effect!).
Wonderful picture. This looks like it could easily have been shot in the 1800's or earlier. Her expression is pretty blank, but it sort of fits the title.
Extraordinary. She could be a porcelain doll. I think the flat light and the palest of catch-lights in the eyes, are what's throwing me. I've come back to look at this a few times now. I'm still not sure she's real. Simply a fascinating portrait... - bumping
Don't assume that because you have an affinity for your subject, the rest of the world will too. Nce detail inthe crown and hair. Face could use some more light (e.g. dodge & burn).
Sweet picture but its a shame its so dark around the top of the face (eyes, fringe). In fact the whole pic above the clothes looks a little too dark which you could have solved with curves or levels or brightness/contrast in PS.
And if i can be really anal about this: if the stray hairs were removed/cloned out it would have made it look much neater. I'm not sure that's a big deal but it's definately a factor in my assessment of it.
But I like it! It's honest and simple and will probably mean something to the parents of the child in later years.
Sophie is beautiful. It seems old-fashioned to me with her hair and the style of dress. I like that.
The photo could use some more processing, I think, to make it shine a bit more. It seems flat. Some work on her eyes would help. Dodge those catchlights a bit?
