I took this when I first got my digital SLR, with my wide angle kit lens, when I still shot mainly in RAW. I took it on the fly (no pun intended) and was actually shooting pictures of groups of cows mostly. Then I zapped myself on their electric fence and spooked them all away.
I used the raw conversion in Photoshop CS2 to lighten it a bit and increase the saturation. After that I used a new adjustment layer (brightness contrast) of just the nose to bring out the drips on the nose and some more detail there. Finally I sharpened the entire work with unsharp mask and cropped it to produce better composition.

This is a fascinating image. Has kept me looking for quite a while. I love the bokeh - a real impressionist feel, and the frozen motion of the flies is great. The composition, while unconventional, works well for me.
Good capture. I think a tighter crop would make it feel a bit more "polished" -- this frame has an accidental feeling to it. If you were going for accidental, you did well. :)
Haha! Great title for this image. The poor thing probably just wish it had a fly trap. =) Unique and interesting photo. Nice job on catching the flying ones on the side. Like the center focus here and your lighting is good.
