When going out to see some friends just out of town I looked over towards the coast and saw these amazing heavy white clouds saying to myself what a backdrop for a single tree shoot. arriving at an intersection there was this tree with the clouds behind them, the distance between the tree and the clouds would have to be about 10klm, with the slope of the paddocks behind the tree this worked well for me.Hope you think so as well.
Your horizon is just fine - the land slopes that way, your tree grows straight. :-) I LOVE the colors in this and the sky is amazing - that line of low clouds with the light is hitting them is wonderful, especially that wee bit reflected in the pond. Really nice work with this one, Brian, from seeing it in the first place to the capture through the processing.
I agree with you about the bottom of the clouds being the true horizontal indicator. Therefore I would rotate the image just slightly counterclockwise to get that line straight. The color is spectacular and I love the bright white trunk of the tree. Very pretty image.
This should do well for sure!
I would have tried to keep a little more green out of the branches of the tree during post processing (Unless that's moss...then I shutup) Your colors are unbelievable though!
Neat scene. I guess the choice was to tilt the tree or the horizon. The tree looks a little overprocessed to me, almost like an illustration that has been pasted in.
This is excellent. I understand that you wanted to make the tree look vertically squared to the frame, but you tilted the image to accomplish the look. (at least that's my reaction) Now, I would have accepted the horizon sliding downhill to the right, but it's the water which betrays. What a wonderful sky and exposure. Magnificent colors and amazing dof. The clipped branches on the right side are a minor distraction. Should be a ribbon winner, but I can't say for sure how many will be distracted by the minor landscape issues. 9
Nice lighting of the tree - the horizon is distracting (i know it's a hillside, but it's amazing on DPC how focussed you become on straight horizons: sorry!!!!). 6.
This comment could be a bit of a personnel taste but this looks a little over=processed. The trunk of the ghost gum looks a little too green for me. That being said I love the composition and sublect choice. I think you'll receive some comments regarding the horizon even though I'm sure this is a hillside. Good luck 7
