Nice picture, great light and I like the use of depth of field in this photo.

What is the light stripe below his chin. It might be part of his clothing. However, it jumped out at me as being out of place. I think it especially is where it is located.

I love this shot. So candid and natural. The only let down for me is the line under his chin which is a little distracting.

This does look great in b/w and the shallow DOF looks good here since you clearly wanted the main focus to be on the boys face and not the pencil. Great job! I gave it a 6 in the initial pass but upgraded it to a 7 after studying it closer.
