And may I reciprocate the compliment! The storytelling in your photos are superb, and if someone takes more than three seconds to look at them, gets drawn into them. Really enjoy this.
cheers
Steve, immediately recognised this one from the street sc. (I seem to recall you did a triptych). Not sure if you have a B&W version, but probably I would prefer it in B&W if you had. Nice one, although I believe it should have scored higher :)
I *thought* this might be yours. Interesting to see how close we are in scores, and on such opposite stylistic extremes. This image deserved better, but we know that don't count for bupkes, right?
It was a day like any other for the three friends. The three girls that walked to and from school together every day. That laughed and giggled and talked about their favorite toys and hated boys and all the other trappings of the lives of little girls.
So when they stopped near that puddle, to show off in the reflection, a sense of vanity and self already growing, they weren't to know what was in store for them. Soon the fun of posing and the making of faces wore off, and it was decided that it was time for a little mischief. So together, as always, they nodded as one and giggling as they went, they leapt off the edge of the curb to splash into that puddle, knowing that wet shoes would earn them the ire of their parents, but not really caring in the way that children full of curiosity and fun don't care.
They leapt off that curb, and disappeared into a depth that wasn't there. Like dropping into a hole covered by a thin mirror of film, and as they disappeared from our world, they entered another, where they eventually found themselves a pivotal part of a struggle for freedom that earned them the status of Heroines of the Realm...
It's a photograph that will appeal best to the lovers of the street; the people who think in terms of the moment, rather than the created or orchestrated faux-reality so revered at DPC. This is a pure moment photograph, and so petty quibbles about cropping or distractions have no place in any appreciation of it. It is what it is, and this is the only copy of it; it can't be recreated. A particularly sublime wee touch is the pair of asian imps on the door behind the girls ... it provides that second layer of satisfaction, that sly touch of whimsy, that's so often found in the most durable of street shots. Very fine photograph.
Good capture of spontaneous activity. The girls add a dynamic sense of motion (looking for sure, considering jumping over maybe). While the others on the street add context, The umbrella does echo color in the girls, but I wonder how this would look recropped to just barely exclude all people except the three girls.
