It was a cloudy day leading up to some thunderstorms later in the afternoon. I was hoping to get a shot that I had seen the week before and cursed myself for not having my camera. Unfortunately, the time of day wasn't quite correct for the shot I wanted.
Having some time, I looked around and this just jumped out at me.
The lighting is natural light diffused through white clouds that filled the sky rather uniformly. I used an automatic setting for taking this shot, the only changes performed to this shot was a B/W conversion and cropping.
Why is it 'opposites'? Well, I haven't ever seen two trains heading opposite directions using the same track at the same time...

I would like to see the contrast boosted just a bit and it seems tilted just slightly. B/W are my favorite photos and I like the simplicity of this one.
You have asked how someone might better convey the concept of "opposites" in this image. I think the answer might be that you couldn't really do so and that the subject is therefore a poor choice for the challenge. I think most of the low scores probably centre on that rather than on the image itself. That said I'll comment on the image next and ignore it's suitability for this particular challenge theme.
Texture: You have captured some lovely textures including the worn wooden sleepers, the gravel and the reflective metal. That contrast of textures is definitely a point of interest.
Contrast/ Tone: The image overall is quite dark. Contrast is reasonably high which works well - I can see the whole range of greys from almost pure white to black shadows.
Composition/ Content: The rails are not horizontal within the frame and the tilt is quite obvious because of the proximity of the lines to the edges of the frame. Rotation would help. The image seems a little too centred horizontally - if there is an expanse of gravel above the top rail I'd include a lot more so that the two rails shown sit in the lower two thirds of the frame. There isn't really an individual focal point or single point of interest - although that's not always necessary, I think it might lift this image and add further interest. For a surreal touch you might place an unexpected object such as a toy rubber duck. For a more traditional feel perhaps a worker's hat and gloves, as though abandoned or maybe a tool?
Great black and white caputre. I love the difference in value of the gravel and the exposure on the rails. I'd like to see it slightly sharper so we can appreciate the textures of the ties.
They very well could be but no way to really tell in this shot. Just two sets of tracks, would work great for a parralle line challenge. Lacks contrast for my personal taste and just not much here to hold my interest overall. A 3
Great idea yet it holds little interest , Good but not great Black and white was a good choice and the title helped ....6 from me Good Luck in the challenge
