this youngster was with about a dozen kids at a birthday party in the park, he was acting up and earned himself a "time out", I hope his body language comes thru in the pic

Thanks to all who commented. I really don't like B&W pics, but, in the spirit of Something New, I thought I'd have a go at it. This was shot in B&W, not converted from color. The separation between the boy and the background leaves came with curves adjustment, and was needed because he was blended in way too much. It was a very bright sunny day so maybe the original was just too over exposed to salvage. I thought the emotion of the situation, with the help of the title, would carry the image's weaknesses. Guess it was just one of those cases of "You had to be there to get it". Don't think I'll be entering any more B&W's for a while, LOL.
when I first saw this I thought the lad had been imported....on second viewing it appears that he is not but it looks like you over dodged his head it as the detail and tone look out of place.
Nice composition. The only thing bugging me about this shot is that the kid looks washed out, almost like he's faded out or almost transparent. An articfact of the technique you used to go from RGB to B&W?
Curious about how you converted this to B/W. The boy looks like a cardboard cut out or like he was added in. There are many ways of converting to B/W where you have great control over the total effect. You do have great contrasts here which lead to a nice B/W shot. I would love to see the original and play around with the conversion to see if it would pop more!

There is an unnatural definition between the boay and background. Possibly oversharpening? Seems generally washed out as well, which I'm guessing is overexposure.
I gave this a five. The framing is decent (although without the title, I would have problems with the subject looking away from the camera at a boring shrub). It is a bit overexposed. I don't think black and white helps this image. For instance, if the boy had been wearing a colorful t-shirt it might have made a nice visual contrast with the neutral colors of the shrubs, walk, and bench.
The first thing I notice is that the boy sticks out from the background as his toning/contrast is quite different from the rest of the image. It almost looks like he was pasted into the shot. The composition is good, and the detail on the branches are good with the mix of light and shadow. The boy looks too light and could probably do with some more contrast so to blend in a little more.
I think it would have been a stronger image if the boy had not been looking out of the picture. The subject implies a lonely boy contemplating whatever, but I can't help getting the feeling he is watching something just outside the left edge. If he had been placed more to the right, it would look more as if he stared into nothingness, since there would more "nothing" to see in the picture.
That said, this is a very good shot.
LOL, I can totally relate to this as my nephew gets these often. It looks like it was overexposed or just too much adjusting of the levels. There are excellent details of everything down to the leaves and the boy's hair.
There's something odd about the boy - in particular the head seems to have been subjected to excess editing - as if it's been pasted in. This detracts significantly from the appeal. Phot apears a bit overexposed also. Otherwise a nice composition.
I like the shot and use of B&W. Looks like you selectively reduced the contrast on the boy--it sticks out that he looks like he has too little contrast, and yet the background contrast looks perfect. I don't understand why you would do that here.
