PostLuminous Award WINNER!
I think this is flawless--sense of place, sense of people, sense of the relationships, and how place & people define & reflect each other.
The idea of time and patience is beautifully captured here, in the building construction & design, the signs of slow decay, and the implied stoicism of the men and their dogs. Generations have passed without anything in this photograph really changing at all. It's also interesting that the two men sit together by also a little apart; familiar but still slightly disconnected. I am reminded of the Balkans.
I love this. What a powerful documentary photo! One of the BEST! For some reason, the dog just makes it for me. One of my favorites and highesr rates photos here.
I heard the old, old men say,
'Everything alters,
And one by one we drop away.'
They had hands like claws, and their knees
Were twisted like the old thorn-trees
By the waters.
I heard the old, old men say,
'All that's beautiful drifts away
Like the waters.'

I see them sitting there and can almost hear their conversations that surely would have to begin with "I remember when...". Are they brothers? Cousins? Friends who've shared an entire lifetime together? There would be no shortage of stories to fill their days...
Godot? I like this but have a hard time deciding where to rest my eyes. On the men and dog, or to the left with the building. I might've done either a study of the human and canine sense of this photo, or concentrated on the architecture.
