This is a single image capture. I tonemapped the sky and shadows but erased the effect on the arch and foreground. Then ran shadows/hihglights on the arch and foreground. Then just few color adjustment layers.
Held on to this one since April! Very Happy with the finish. :)

Congrats on your high finish, Joe! This was definitely a fav of mine, an exceptional capture. I'm not familiar with this landmark but I think I caught a glimpse of it in a commercial recently. Excellent choice of subject!
vibrant red colours, nicely sharpened, nice DOF, Lovely leading lines to the arch, I would have actually cropped the sun out as it does distract from the Arch. well done
Beautifully done! I was surprised to see the sun in that particular position... I'm pretty sure it was setting a bit further to the right of that position when I visited there this summer. I like the feeling of desolation, even knowing that there were probably dozens of other people crowded around you when you shot it!
