Taken at a parking lot overlooking Waynesville, NC, my hometown. Was a very, very hazy day, so I really had to work to get any contrast and color at all in the shot.
Wow, thanks for all the comments. The vertical lines happened upon resizing. I think it was something that the clarify did when it went smaller. I added a vignette.
And, I am not actually shooting through the windshield. At least not entirely. (I could never keep it clean enough for that). It is just subjects that are usually seen "through the windshield" but I do not exit the vehicle to get the shot. :) Sorry for the confusion.
Interesting perspective on your town. I love the contrast between the town and the hills, and the hills offer such interesting lines to wander through.
Clever idea to shoot through the windshield, and it's amazing how well it came out. At the top is that sensor dust or something on the windshield? Good luck keeping the windshield clean. :)
Pretty darn clear shot for a through the windshield thing! I know what you mean about trying to get contrast out of haze - it surprises me sometimes just how much information gets packed in the pixels and how it can be brought out. Nice work with this!
You've done a pretty good job on the pp on this one, IMO. I think the most painful thing about this photo may be the windshield itself. I wonder if there's some kind of coating on the glass that is causing the vertical wavy lines over the hills in the upper right?
PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - Beautiful Eastern USA scene you don't see much of out west. The constant haze reminds me of when we visited the Blue Mountains in Australia there is a blue haze I think from eucalyptus vapors. There appear to be some vertical waves through the right half of the hills, or is that my computer?
Great sense of depth here. I like that there is a layer of trees in the foreground to keep more of a rural feel to this. The texture in the sky is a bit odd, but still pretty clear for a shot taken through a windshield! You'll need to keep plenty of washer fluid on hand this year with the theme you've chosen!
I wish we had trees like that here! Kind of cool that you can pick apart the layers of fog.
It's not really a true fog. The mountains here often have a haze to them, especially in the summer. After a rain, or wet weather (which we had yesterday), it looks like smoke (thus the nomiker Smoky Mountains).
