This is my mother's father. I'm honestly not sure how old he is, but I think he qualifies. We always get together at my parents' house the day after Christmas. Granddaddy happened to sit in a rocking chair right across from me and in front of a blank (off) white wall at one point. I shot a few without him noticing and a few with him looking right at me. I felt that this particular expression was the most emotive.
I purposely processed it this desaturated/high key/high contrast fashion (just because I like how it looks). 430EX II on camera bounced off of the ceiling.

Fantastic picture Nathan! Gives a feeling of closeness. I am wondering why he is looking down. It somehow, makes the portrait even better. Very well done!
What a striking high key capture. What a fascinating choice to use a shot where the subject is looking down. You've really stepped out of the box with this submission - congrats this is a great entry.
Very strong Image. The only one of the challenge that stopped me in my tracks. Curious to know how this was lit also. Great job!! This is blue ribbon material for certain.
Love this shot. Detail is wonderful without it feeling overprocessed. Love that he isnt looking at the camera. Has a brilliant caught feel to it but with wonderful studio like technicals.
Very good photo, I like the high key and the not perfeclty centered composition. I only wish the eyes were fully open, as they are looking down I feel I miss the object they are looking at.
