I'm not sure this is a great image for this challenge. I think the "rust" association is pretty weak. As a photo, all of the colors seem washed out. The depth of field could be greater. The out of focus blue arm right in the middle of the composition is distracting.

Technically, this photo is fine. Personally I don't like the subject or the interptretation of the challenge. Two orange objects have nothing to do with 'rusted', and 'rusty' was also not the topic.
Clever metaphor of an aged (very) man trying to get back into action again, but is haunted by memories and punishing himself by only dating monsters. -- OK, Ok, maybe not! :D
