I forgot to shoot for the speed challenge until the "Feast" was over and all of the guests were long gone... so I put a photo I HAD taken (earlier that day, during the challenge period) up on my monitor, set a glass of wine in front of it... and then drank the wine while I processed the new photo.
I'm sorry if it shows. LOL!
Edit:
Wow! A ribbon! Never in my mind did I ever expect this from this shot. I think I spent ten minutes on it. I usually obsess for DAYS about every detail on my entries, and don't score as well as this.
I should learn something from this... But what?! *grin*
Thanks BUNCHES for the comments and votes. I'm thrilled!
And BTW... that's iced tea in the glasses on the table. I thought for sure someone would comment on that... that there was noone else with wine at the meal.
Regarding the DQ: The thread about it, and my response, are here:
My response is on page four, I think, in bold type.
I always wonder how a DQ'd image had scored... this one got a Yellow Ribbon with a 6.4xx
Disqualification Details
You may include existing images or artwork as part of your composition as long as the entry does not appear to consist entirely of a pre-existing photograph in order to circumvent date or editing rules or fool the voters into thinking you actually captured the original photograph.

Sorry for the DQ Lydia, I used this method in one of my entries and it probably would have been DQed if I had been in the top 5. I guess this is a hard lesson for all of us. :-( Good luck with you next challenge!
A photo and a tv set in just these two alone have been allowed to stand and stay and not be DQ'd!!!!
I'm SO sorry that this is happening to you! It's SO unfair!!!
I guess that I can expect a DQ notice on my current entry as well now as I have used the same concept.
Just want to say I am very sorry for the DQ. I hate them. Have had one in my time and they HURT! I just want to mention that my image (above) was not a champagne glass with a picture in the background; but of a live fireworks show happening on new year's eve on my TV. I know that might not be much consolation for Lydia, but the fact is it wasn't art or another photograph, it was LIVE action.
For what it's worth, I think yours is so line ball that it could have been given the benefit of the doubt in this situation, but that's the way it goes. I am sure the SC sweated it out.
Hope you do really, really, really well in the next few challenges Lydia!
Lydia....I'd CONTEST this DQ!!!! Honestly!!! I know now that I am also going to be DQ'd in another current challenge as I had the same idea as you did.
HOWEVER....HERE ARE SOME LINKS to OTHER photos that have done the same thing and NOT been DQ'd!!!! (There are TONS of others in DPC who have done the same thing and NOT been DQ'd!!!) SC had better get their acts together!!!!

I don't understand the ruling on the DQ. You took the background photo during the time of the challenge, it's not someone elses work, you were present there when that photo was taken, so to me you were not trying to fool me.
Lydia, I totally see what you were trying to accomplish in this photo and am sorry it got dq'ed. To me the focus is the toast and you are just using the other picture as a sort of backdrop, but apparently others see it differently. Don't let it get you down!!!
Oh Lydia - I'm so sorry this happened. It is a shame that they chose your photo to use as an example of the kind of ruling they want to enforce this time :(
YOU'VE BEEN HOSED...either SC is going to allow these types of "existing" photos or NOT allow them. There have benn COUNTLESS other entries of this sort...a monitor with another "live" object in front.
The site either needs to allow this OR NOT ALLOW this type of picture.
This pic should be reinstated and the rules changed.
I didn't mean that you were decieving anyone..which is why I took out the part from the rules before you responded. I could tell that is probably what you would have thought.
I just giving my opinion. I really liked the idea...when I thought it was in the moment.
I still like it...just less. :)
I am not mad...just offering my opinion because I really learn alot when people give me their advice...I try to do the same.
"'include existing images or artwork as part of your composition as long as the entry does not appear to consist entirely of a pre-existing photograph in order to circumvent date or editing rules or fool the voters into thinking you actually captured the original photograph.'
I don't want to be cruel or anything...but I probably wouldn't have voted this as high as I did...if I had known it was a photograph of a photograph. "
I really can appreciate where you're coming from here, Eric. And I also appreciate your honesty.
However, I took both images during the challenge period and the image does not consist entirely of a pre-existing photograph. In my opinion, the image is about a toast with a glass of wine which was not in the original image. Taking the photograph this way was certainly not to circumvent date or editing rules or to fool the voters into thinking I captured the original photograph, because I captured the original photograph within the 48-hour challenge period also.
I am sorry you voted on the image as you thought it was... but really, it did seem obvious to me that the DOF was 'off' on the merged photo... making it clear that 'something' was going on. The wine glass is sharp, the foreground folks are OOF and then the background folks are back in focus again.
Please don't judge me harshly... I truly did not mean to deceive the voters. Indeed, I don't think I did deceive them. But, I AM sorry you're disappointed about your vote.
THANKS for telling me. I do like to know things like this.
BTW, I thought your baby with the 'pinch-sized' sugar spoon was adorable!
Congratulations! I know exactly what you mean. It seems the less time, less effort the higher the score?? I've noticed the same thing. It seems that the more effort I spend on a challenge, the lower it pushes me. Too weird. Anyway, nice work on this one.
Are you trying to make me thirsty? Because if you are, then it worked! And if you arnt, well, then thanks. Now I am not only fat, but I have to go to rehab. I hate you....
congrats on the ribbon. Great idea for this challenge, nothing like a 48 hour challenge to put the pressure on and you seem to work well under pressure

Congrats! I gave this a 9, I thought I had commented on this one.(?) I guess not, love the tones.
I did something similar for "where in the world is Art" to get his face on the ornament. Great job.
The implications of the smiling faces that are blurred out in the background, really set this off for me. The crispness of the glass and the reflection just adds to the whole scene. well done
Awkward perspective with the wine glass and the background in combination-- it looks like you're holding up the wine glass.. which gives this too much of a posed feel for my taste. If you had left this on the table and incorporated the family OOF in the background, that would make this the best of the submissions.
I think this would have been much better if the people would have been looking at you instead of eating. I know it's hard to control everyone, but I just think it would have added to the picture.
