A strong urban British 60s film vibe is what came to mind for this. This lovely gent just didn't care that pigeons are spreading filth and disease - and he openly showed his affection for the white dove over the drab grey ones.
A couple of irritating lens flares I'd like to have omitted, but I liked this frame too much to choose an alternative. There were some alternative crops to this but at 640px I chose something with detail.

Edits:
Lots of subtle colour balance in RGB/Lab and CMYK modes. Chose a 14:9 style crop to give it more of a cross-processed dramatic feel.

Post challenge:
Thank you all very much for the great comments, reactions and votes. I'm glad this was liked as much as I enjoyed taking the shots. As I often find with older people – this man was very co-operative, friendly and open-minded. I actually wrote a story behind this image – a mini screenplay – which I'll upload later to show what it made me think about.
Cheers
Jon
PS. sorry, but I simply won't apologise for the title! This is a shot that I just did not want to portray as a standalone photo as it is inextricably linked in my mind to a whole collection of events that surround the moment. Irritating though it may be within DPC, I would like to have displayed it hand-written on masking tape, stuck over a cel, etc.

Would you be willing to explain this?: "Chose a 14:9 style crop to give it more of a cross-processed dramatic feel." How does that work exactly?
What I meant was that I cropped it to a 14:9 ratio, similar to the compromise crop ratio used in movies-for-TV conversion, to give a cinematic edge to it. My grammar was not good here and the x-process bit was irrelevant in context of cropping, but was useful in giving it that urban, gritty dramatic vibe, such as in the film 'Kes' or 'Nil by Mouth' perhaps.
[edited for typo in grammar!]
....and then the doves attacked the man, pecking his eyeballs and eating him to the bone. After they had gorged themselves, the person that voted this a 1 dropped dead, and the doves pooped all over him/her.
A lovely back-lit image that brings to mind thoughts of a distant time and place yet it could be in your local park. A rare thing for DPC, an image that tells many stories, has no oversaturated color….. and it has a ribbon? Is this a change of the guard here?
absolutely incredible shot, love the editing, great timing, just incredible capture, definitely adding to faves, very nicely done here, should've been 7+ quite easily, still good score and congrats on the ribbon.
This photo is incredible. The lighting rocks and the colors are perfect. I especially love the second bird on the right of the frame. Fabulous! Congrats on the ribbon.
Absolutely beautiful. I didn't vote in this challenge, but did have a quick browse earlier in the week, and this image stayed with me. I look forward to reading your story.
Very nice detail in this intimate moment. I was attracted to this photo more than any other in the challenge. There must have been a lot of serendipity in capturing this photo - but the eye you have for a good moment was the clincher. I carry around a little bird seed in my camera bag (in a ziploc bag) just in case birds might show up. They can enhance a photo. Wonderful shot...
Wow! Cross-process, flare, visible grain, and you still won a ribbon here on DPC. I hope this is an ongoing trend here.
The pic itself:
The backlighting on pigeons and on the hand's hair convey the feeling of a low rise winter sun, accentuated by the cold colors of the cross process. Overall, this convey a peacefull moody feeling, which is quite an achievment considering that it was probably full of pigeons freneticly flying everywhere.
Beautiful. I didn't vote on this challenge, but almost did just because of this single shot. Congrats on the ribbon! Love the gentle, skilled touch with the processing and presentation, too.
Congrats on your well-deserved ribbon!!! I had marked this one a fav and feel bad I didn't leave a comment earlier. I find this photo absolutely brilliant and hope to take one this good perhaps in three life times from now! Well done!
I really love this image. However, the title kind of killed it for me for some reason. I love the wings, the old hands, the landing bird, but that title .... 6
