Clearly not my best work but I needed to enter something for DPC-O. A bit surprised that the score was this low - a cute dog, decent comp, etc....In hindsight, I should have gone another way. I thought the highlights on the fur surrounding the ears would be sufficient to express the concept of backlighting, but people clearly wanted bright backgrounds...live and learn.
Postscript: Caly, the subject, is just glad that this shot finished over 5.0. I had threatened to make her sleep outside from now on if she ended up below 5....

You are not the only one surprised at your low score. I had this one figured for a medal. It looks like people don't appreciate subtlety. I think the similarity in colour is lovely, and she does have something to make her stand out from her background - the lovely halo of sunlight through her hair.
What a charmer. I love the way the backlighting gives him an outline that allows him to stand out against a background which almost matches him in colour. Also you have captured his features to perfection as well. 10
