Looks more like a dull washed-out black to me! Rather uninspiring, I'm afraid. The focus is soft, and the hash lighting has produced heavy shadows against the background - pulling your subject forward would help avoid these.
unfortunately with DPC's size requirements, thin crops do not work so well as you don't use alot of the space. Also if you have photoshop you should use the Save for Web feature, it will get you photo to the maximum allowable size 150 kb which will show the most details. Your image is only ~50 kb.
