 The graffiti says "Solidarity with the struggle of those in the prison dungeons". There are 5,000 inmates on hunger strike at the moment demanding better prison conditions...

This borders on photojournalism -- I can easily see this in a news magazine. Good use of negative space and nicely exposed.

Wonderful assemblage of elements, clearly shown. Contemporary documentary vis a vis contemporary expression/protest art/desecration and the static monument to the past which comes to life in its own shadow... We are left to interpret the indices of the latter. (I would like to know whom the statue represents - sage, politician, poet? - but I don't need to know).
