An interesting home to be sure and he seems to have it quite well organized. I suspect from the tree trunks beyond this is a relatively warm climate, which is a good place to have a home such as this.
Looks like you had a good subject for the challenge. It doesnt look like you really took the time to compose the shot though. I dont like that you cant see the guys face. It takes away from what the image could say to the viewer IMO.
It's overexposed, but that can be adjusted with some PP work.
You should have gone up to talk to the guy, talked to him a bit and then taken some great shots.
Capture the face and convert to black and white and you have a strong picture. As it is with the high sun, the subject looking away, we can almost feel his pain, but there is too much left for us to try and figure out.
