Once there was a poor woman who had two children. The youngest one had to go into the forest every day to fetch wood. Once when he had gone a very long way to find wood, a child who was very little but very strong came to him and helped him gather the wood and carried it up to his house, but then in the wink of an eye he disappeared. The child told his mother about this, but she did not believe him. Finally the child brought a rose and said that the beautiful child had given it to him and that when the rose was in full blossom he would come again. The mother placed the rose into water. One morning the child did not get up; the mother went to his bed and found him lying there dead. On that same morning the rose came into full blossom.

I think for the most part you were on the right track with the concept, it's just lacking visually.
Overall, my first impression is that this image certainly fits the challenge and the exposure looks OK, but the image is pretty mundane. There's simply nothing drawing me in, no drama compelling me to keep looking. As others have commented, there are some styling issues with the blood looking like jelly or ketchup and the seam on the pillowcase.
Let's face it, there are only 3 things in this shot and they're just sort of plopped in front of us, trying to tell a story or at least remind us of a story. I think it would have been much better to have a child or a weeping mother in the shot holding the rose. Barring that, the lighting could have been used to create some drama, the light you used here is pretty flat and really makes the scene dull.
Didn't find that one, but the concept seems Grimm. The puddle looks jammy (and I've been guilty of the same prop so I should know). I think I would have turned the pillow so there was no seam showing (more fancy-looking that way) and thinned out the "blood" on the sheet.
It's obviously ketchup which kinda spoils the effect a bit, which is a shame cos the light and composition are great, I love this idea; corn syrup or even fake blood from a Halloween store would've improved this great shot a lot.
There was once a poor woman who had two children. The youngest had to go every day into the forest to fetch wood. Once when she had gone a long way to seek it, a little child, who was quite strong, came and helped her industriously to pick up the wood and carry it home, and then before a moment had passed the strange child disappeared. The child told her mother this, but at first she would not believe it. At length she brought a rose home, and told her mother that the beautiful child had given her this rose, and had told her that when it was in full bloom, he would return. The mother put the rose in water. One morning her child could not get out of bed. The mother went to the bed and found her dead, but she lay looking very happy. On the same morning, the rose was in full bloom.
the story of the rose includes more
then just a red rose. some research
and adding a boy, mom, or both. this
picture is just simple anybody can
take a picture of a rose but you
have to tell the story behind the picture.
