a fly on a leaf on our mandarin tree ..
i've scaled him up 180% and added some grass behind the leaf to cover some terrible banding ..
used canon Extension Tube EF12 II with 100mm lens ..
i have heaps of trouble staying still enough to get such a small creature in focus this close-up ... just breathing puts you out .. its nearly impossible to hold totally still ..
there's this guy in flickr called brian valentine, user name LordV, and he does THE most awesome macros of insects .. he also puts out tutorials of how he achieves the amazing results he gets ..
today i used one of his suggestions .. i held a long pole, which just happened to be a mop, with my left hand to brace myself and the camera .. a suggestion on how to brace yourself ..& because i held the mop i got a heap more shots in focus than i otherwise would have ..
here's a link to some excellent suggestions on shooting macros macrophotography tips
since steve's comment i've realised this isnt a common house fly at all, which was my title .. its a bush fly ...
These things are amazingly ugly and yet make for stunning Macro photography, am I the only one that finds it weird that ugly things often make for really interesting subjects when in a photo?
Great shot, and nicely done with the cover up, other than a tiny halo around the rear foot I would never have known.
Wheweeee! You sure do attract a lot of flies! :P I like you other one better, but this is excellent as well. Thanks for the links to the tips - you clearly mastered the steady macro here.
WOW that's another great insect close up macro from you Roz. Awesome detail and textures on that fly Roz. Gosh you are so GOOD at macro shots, especially of insects, like bees bugs, flies and your famous dragon flies,
Peter caught some lady bugs for me, strange color up here, as they are yellow and black. I have them in the fridge to quieten down so hopefully they will not fly away. I will no kill them as I LOVE Lady Bugs.....
By the way, do not go to fast with adding your macros as you get to 10 before everyone else does. I love to add more, but we have a limit of ten, so we must stick to the rules.
