No overlays, that's debris in the water, shot through the dirty glass of the underwater viewing room. Yes, he's swimming! I used a combination of PSCS & PSPX2 to process from raw. The raw file is extremely dark.
Post Challenge: Thanks for all the great comments and favs!! The vote scrubber got the 1's but I think it took some 10's too since my score went way down after rollover. LOL! I really enjoyed the update button on this one. And a Posthumous red too! I'm so excited!

when I saw this in your portfolio i thought "surely i commented on this, i remember it" but nope. i goot say its so amazing how this shot looks like its in 3-d, like hes coming right out of the monitor. this is an amazing shot for shooting thru the aquarium glass!

Absolutely wonderful image. Hippos running underwater have always fascinated me. Did you see the Cousteau movie about them? It took them likke 20 years to make the film...

part of me says don't be too impressed this is just an aquarium shot, but damn this shot is special. It keeps drawing me in with some sort of fairy tale mysticism. So you've forced it out of me: a Posthumous Red Ribbon.
The texture, the title, the humorous way he fills up the entire frame even though he is supposedly in "flight"... these are the touches that take it over the top.
I'm SO glad you decided to change out for this one. It's just fascinating!! Now go get that personal best with it! And one more fav for good measure. :-)

A Hippo zippin around underwater!, I see there is a lot of noise, but in this case it works wonders for the picture and gives it a "i'm flying" kind of feeling, the expression everything. I love this so much im gonna favorite it
Oh I do love this! Then again I adore hippos! I saw some swimming when visiting Busch Gardens, I think it was, a few years ago. I was glued to the glass, fascinated with the hippos, a view we never see in the wild, until my friends dragged me away after an hour. This is a great shot!
Wow, how on earth did you get this shot? Those things are dangerous! You know they kill more people a year in the wild than lions do? There's your fun fact for the day; it's fun to learn, cos knowledge is power! Ahem. Well done, looks awesome.
That is one cool capture. I have always been fascinated by these creatures. I have to assume this is a zoo shot but dang it looks intense. The noise issues int he water are really mellowed out by the creature. Not digging the border. Very cool image overall.
